FAQ

What is the real-world advantage of upgrading to a carbon-composite pedal body like the Ultegra R8000?

Moving up to the Ultegra carbon body from lower-tier alloy or composite pedals provides two performance upgrades: weight reduction and lateral stiffness. Because carbon fiber allows for complex, high-rigidity structural shapes at a fraction of the weight, the R8000 pedals shave away significant rotating mass at your feet, making the bike feel snappy when spinning up to speed. More importantly, the carbon matrix does not exhibit mechanical flex under high-torque climbing loads or out-of-the-saddle sprinting.

How do I correctly adjust the spring tension on my new Ultegra pedals?

Adjusting the entry and release tension is straightforward. On the rear retention clip of each pedal, you will find a small 2.5mm hex screw alongside a visual indexing gauge indicator. To increase the retention force—making the pedal hold onto your shoe cleat more tightly for intense sprinting—turn the screw clockwise toward the plus (+) sign. To loosen the tension for easier, light-effort clipping in and out, turn the screw counter-clockwise toward the minus (-) sign.
