Can I mix and match an SM-BH59 insert pin inside an SM-BH90 high-power hydraulic brake hose?

No, this is a critical mistake that can ruin your brakes or cause a sudden crash. While the outer diameters of both hoses match at 5.0mm, the internal tube dimensions are completely different. The standard SM-BH59 hose features a wider internal bore, meaning its gold insert pin has a thick shaft. The high-power SM-BH90 hose features a significantly narrower internal bore for increased fluid velocity, requiring a much thinner silver insert pin.

Why must I install a completely brand-new olive and insert every time I shorten my brake lines?

Hydraulic olive rings are strictly single-use compression components. When you lock down the internal brake line shroud nut to factory spec, the soft brass olive ring is intentionally crushed and permanently deformed out of shape, biting down tightly into the outer plastic coating of the hose to lock it in place. Once crushed, the metal loses all elasticity.
