This extra width allows the tape to contour completely down into the central drop-well and spread evenly out to the bead hooks on both sides. This 28mm width is custom-mapped for rims featuring an internal width of 25mm to 27mm, which is the sweet spot for modern wide road wheels, endurance gravel hoops, and fast cross-country mountain bike wheels.

What is the best method to prepare my rims before wrapping this tape?

If you apply this tape over residual oil, factory grease, or old adhesive grit, the pressure-sensitive bond will fail instantly, causing the tape to lift and bubble. Before wrapping, completely strip off all old tape, scrub the rim down with a clean rag soaked in Muc-Off Glue & Sealant Remover or high-purity Isopropyl Alcohol, and let it dry completely.
